About Hostelling International

American Youth Hostels

Hostelling International is the largest travel organization in the world! Hostelling International - American Youth Hostels (HI-AYH) is a nonprofit organization which promotes international understanding and cultural exchange thought its network of hostels and its educational travel programs. HI-AYH is the United States affiliate of the International Youth Hostel Federation, or IYHF, which encompasses nearly 5,000 hostels in over 70 countries. Hostelling International and the Blue Triangle are the seal of approval of the IYHF, assuring quality budget accommodations and programs for travelers of all ages.

Pittsburgh Council

Pittsburgh Council of American Youth Hostels was chartered in 1948 to serve hostellers in western Pennsylvania and the West Virginia panhandle. Pittsburgh Council operated the Ohiopyle Hostel in Ohiopyle State Park and  the Pittsburgh International Hostel, run an extensive outdoor activities program, had a weekly open house, and had a travel center with information on travel and hostels around the world. Pittsburgh Council is non-profit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
