Thursday Night Open House

Pittsburgh Council had a weekly open house every Thursday evening from 8 pm to 10 pm in Pittsburgh's Mellon Park at the corner of Fifth and Shady Avenues in Shadyside. Look for us next to the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts at 6300 Fifth Avenue. We normally have a slide show on travel or outdoor recreation starting at 8:30 pm, followed by announcements of the coming week's trips.

Bob McKinley of Regional Trail Corporation presents "The Youghiogheny River Trail". What has been completed, and future plans. The annual Yough River Sojourn includes canoeing, rafting and bicycling from Confluence to McKeesport.

We show the 16 mm film "The England Of Elizabeth". Daily life, views of forests and countryside. Art and architecture, maps and manuscripts, poetry and music. Power and prestige of Great Britain in the 16th century.

Joyce Appel and Paul Henry, "Travel In Zimbabwe". Foot safari to track white rhinos. Black rhinos live in the forest. Aerial pictures of Victoria Falls. Stay at Missouri Ranch.

Kyaw Win, "A Journey Through Myanmar On A Bike". On the old Burma Road. From the China border down to Rangoon. Amazing ruins of the city of Pagan.

Hostel passes, travel books, and biking, hiking and canoeing guide books were available.
