To provide inexpensive educational travel, intercultural understanding, and an understanding of the natural environment through hostels, hostelling, and outdoor recreation.

Dedicated Volunteers

Pittsburgh Council was run by dedicated volunteers. There were two separate but equally important groups of people who keep the council going.  The Board of Directors was responsible for the management and operation of the council and hostels. The Activities Council was concerned with the activities program. All positions were voluntarily and require lots of time, effort and commitment to do the job right.

Pittsburgh Council was governed by an elected Board of Directors:
